Data Sources and Citation-Based Metrics
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Russian Federation Ranking is founded on robust, diverse, and credible data sources, including primarily OpenAlex and CrossRef, as well as multiple additional bibliometric repositories. All citation-based metrics and bibliometric data utilized in constructing this ranking were meticulously gathered as of 2024-11-27. Institutional ranking positions are determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all featured scholars affiliated with a given institution. The D-index reflects the H-index calculated exclusively for publications and citations within a specific discipline. Importantly, scholars from all major research areas were included to ensure comprehensive coverage in the ranking.
Scope and Criteria of the Research Ranking
The ranking is grounded in extensive analysis, examining a total of 279,971 scientist profiles that were identified from a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources. These profiles span the full array of major scientific disciplines. For inclusion in the ranking, individual scholars had to meet a qualifying D-index threshold of 20. In addition to bibliometric indicators, each scientist’s professional accolades and career achievements within their respective fields were also considered as part of the evaluation process.
Verification and Quality Assurance Practices
Recognizing the complexities and limitations of bibliometric data, the Research.com team undertook comprehensive verification measures to ensure accuracy and reliability. All scientist profiles underwent manual review and cross-correlation with publications listed in a wide array of authoritative, trustworthy sources. While not a direct metric in the ranking, the number of articles published in leading journals and conference proceedings was taken into account as a valuable supplementary signal of scholarly impact within particular scientific disciplines.
Each researcher's position in the ranking is determined by their H-index as reported by OpenAlex and CrossRef—currently the most prominent and credible bibliometric databases available to the international research community.
